Gore Hotel, Kensington, London
The hotel itself was really beautiful, though full of old world charm. I think
the highlight was the Library which had a gorgeous fire place, lovely high
ceilings and fresh coffee and tea always available, though the stylish bistro
and elegant staircase, hundreds of paintings, posters, plants, ornate mirrors
& antique carpets all helped to enhance the Gores' elegant charm. Fabulous
darling, fabulous
Ok I hear you ask, that all sounds perfect but can you hear the but ...
Apart from the bar manager and our lack of seats, the hotel is almost spoiled by
the service at the bistro. On our first night had dinner there. I ordered
scallops (yummy!) and my husband went for a steak, changing the chips for mash.
And guess what?! Chips arrived. Even so scallops were a delight, soft and sweet
and hubby said steak was extremely tender.
Worst than this were the breakfasts. Each morning was one problem or another, in
the course of two breakfasts we had to ask for a menu, chase to the staff to give
our order, the buffet always seemed empty, no bread left, only muffins, no plates,
no cutlery, no butter, ask for butter and STILL no butter, but perhaps the highlight
of our breakfasts was sending our toast back to be toasted!
